Kids like acupuncture, too – I swear it! As a mother of two, I am passionate about helping parents make wellness a family priority. I know that many of us parents are searching for alternatives to conventional medical treatment, which may be invasive or involve unwanted side effects. Chinese medicine offers a gentler and more natural approach so that our children may not only be free from symptoms but may be truly well! In more serious conditions, where western medical treatment may be necessary, acupuncture can help mitigate side effects and hasten recovery time.

Will kids really let you put needles in them?

Yes! The needles used for infants and children are so fine they often times cannot be felt. Furthermore, I do not retain needles in infants and small children. I use a quick “in and out” technique so they do not have to sit still for any length of time. I also incorporate a variety of non-needle techniques in my treatments. For children who are especially nervous, we don’t have to use needles to do acupuncture!

What does a treatment involve?

I will send you the necessary paperwork prior to your child’s first appointment so that you may bring it with you. During this initial session, we will do a complete health history of your child and discuss a treatment plan. I will also make suggestions regarding lifestyle or dietary changes that I believe will be of benefit to your child’s health. Lastly, I may also recommend herbs or dietary supplements.

Is acupuncture safe for children?

Absolutely. And, I’m not the only one who thinks so. After 60 years of research, the American Academy of Pediatrics has deemed acupuncture to be a safe treatment for children.
